RYE HOUSE BRIDGE TO FEILDES WEIR

This section is one of the deepest parts of the River Lea Navigation. It starts to produce from July onwards, mainly roach, skimmer bream and perch to well over 4lb. The best swims are normally on the bends but the fish do tend to move around. Chub have shown in the past by the Rye House Public House when boats were permanently moored, since these have moved, so the chub have spread out.
The section has a concrete bank right up to the Railway bridge. From the Railway bridge to the lock cut some good bags of roach can be caught in the summer, fishing with hemp and tares will produce. The swims where the river widens before going over the weir are another area where bream can be caught, again fishing across the river on a feeder.
Beware of the power cables.

Access via Rye Road or from Pindar Road then left into Normandy Way over the bridge and turn left into Fishermans Way

FEILDES WEIR

This wide and deep weir pool is home to a large shoal of big bream, probably the best swims being the 3 nearest to the weir. The weir pool has some very good purpose built platforms for anglers. Again as with a lot of the River Lea for the bream, cast across the river with a feeder. The weir pool has also produced some large tench to anglers while fishing for the bream. If the bream do not feed there is a good head of roach and perch to be caught on the pole, try hemp and tares in the summer months.
The weir pool is also a good place for pike in the winter months.

FROM FEILDES WEIR TO LOWER LOCK – RIVER STORT NAVIGATION

This is where the River Stort joins the River Lea Navigation above Feildes Weir, the river here is narrow with over hanging trees and has produced bags of roach and small bream throughout the season. It is not regularly fished.
